Finding A Foothold Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to serving older adults, caregivers, and families in underserved communities throughout the greater Baton Rouge area.
MISSION
Finding A Foothold Foundation empowers older adults in underserved communities to age safely and independently through falls prevention education, caregiver support, and community partnerships that help them remain in their homes and communities for as long as possible.
September Highlights:
A Month of Community, Connection, and Gratitude
What an incredible month September was!
Falls Prevention Awareness Month marked a major milestone for Finding A Foothold Foundation. As a young, all-volunteer organization, we are incredibly proud of what we accomplished together. Throughout September, we intensified our community outreach, delivering seven falls prevention workshops and participating in two speaking engagements, both virtually and beyond Louisiana.
September provided wonderful opportunities to share our message of falls prevention, protecting independence, and healthy aging while strengthening relationships with new and existing community partners.
One of the most rewarding parts of the month was hearing directly from participants about what they learned and the changes they plan to make to protect their independence. Their enthusiasm and encouragement continue to inspire our work.
We couldn't have done it without you! We are deeply grateful to our volunteers, sponsors, community partners, and everyone who supported our efforts and helped make September such a success.
Although Falls Prevention Awareness Month has ended, our commitment continues year-round. We look forward to building new relationships, reaching more communities, and creating more opportunities to support older adults and caregivers.
We're excited about what's ahead, and we're just getting started!

Why It Matters:
Falls are changing the health and wellness of families. Many adult children worry about their parents’ safety but overlook their own.
Keeping older adults safe and caregivers protected is critical as our aging population grows. Our programs teach practical ways to reduce fall risks, improve home safety, and prevent caregiver injuries through safer daily techniques and supportive environments.
We envision communities where older adults can age in place, remain in their homes for as long as possible, and experience autonomy and fulfillment — while family caregivers are empowered to provide support without sacrificing their own well-being.

77% of adults age 50 and older want to remain in their homes for the long term.

Fallen leaves and pine needles may look harmless, but when combined with moisture, they can create slippery walking surfaces and increase the risk of falls. Keep walkways clear, wear shoes with good traction, and watch your step when walking outdoors.
