What Is Occupational Therapy?
Let’s start by defining an “Occupation”. "Occupations" include any activity a person needs or wants to do to maintain a good quality of life. Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) like dressing and bathing, and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) such as cooking, laundry, driving, are all examples of occupations. Occupational therapists (OTs) help restore or adapt the functional skills of those aging (all of us) and caregivers, with the goal of ensuring maximum safety, independence and the best quality of life.
Finding A Foothold Fall Prevention Services:
-
Mobile Occupational Therapy
Personalized, one-on-one services in your home without needing homebound status, as it differs from home health care. Billed like outpatient therapy, a licensed OT conducts an assessment, deficits are identified, and a customized plan is developed to maximize skills and establish safe techniques for Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). This includes strengthening, endurance, and balance training, along with recommendations for proper equipment use and caregiver training.
-
OT Home Safety Assessment:
An OT Home Safety Assessment is performed. The setup of a home significantly influences one's ability to age in place, retain independence, and minimize fall risks. This in-home assessment identifies fall hazards and offers insights on layout changes, equipment, and devices to enhance home safety and function.
-
Fall Prevention Workshops/Webinars
Falls are the leading cause of injuries in the home, often resulting in ER visits, surgeries and the need to move into another environment. Fortunately, most falls are preventable. Call to inquire about scheduling a workshop or webinar with your organization that will equip and empower participants with tools and strategies to age safely and continue living their best life.

There are only four kinds of people in the world: those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers.” —— Rosalynn Carter

OUR VISION
Our vision is a society where the valued aging/senior individuals can experience autonomy and fulfillment as they age in place for as long as possible in their homes and community, where family caregivers are empowered to provide support and care in a manner that also allows for nurturing their own well-being, minimizing overwhelm and burnout.
