Confused About What Occupational Therapy Is?

No, it doesn’t help you find a job, but your job is to live well, hah! So, let’s start by defining an “Occupation”. "Occupations" include any activity a person needs or wants to do to maintain a good quality of life. Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) like dressing and bathing, and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) such as household tasks, are all examples of occupations. Occupational therapists (OTs) help restore or adapt these functions and train caregivers, ensuring maximum safety, independence and reduced caregiver stress.

Advantages of Mobile OT vs other settings:

  • Mobile OT

  • Home Health OT

  • Outpatient Clinic OT

Mobile occupational therapy provides personalized, one-on-one services in your home without needing homebound status, as it differs from home health care. Billed like outpatient therapy, it lets us tackle unique situations and environmental barriers directly, enhancing independence and reducing fall risk. Enjoy tailored training in your natural environment for optimal task performance.

Finding A Foothold Services:

  • OT Functional Assessment:

An assessment is performed, deficits identified and a plan developed to maximize skills and develop techniques and methods of performing Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) tasks safely. Strengthening, endurance and balance training included with recommendations for proper equipment use and caregiver trainng.

  • Fall Prevention Education:

A Home Safety Assessment is performed. Setup of a home plays a significant role in determining whether someone can successfully age in place (remain in their home as they get older). Making adaptations in the home, adding in equipment and modifying how tasks are performed can enhance an individual’s ability to maintain independence, safety and overall quality of life as they age.

White Paper and LinkedIN Live:

I am proud to have been a part of the team that produced this new White Paper and conducted a LinkedIn Live Panel Discussion in May 2024, developed by The Whole Care Network.

As one of the authors of this White Paper, I collaborated in a MASTERMIND GROUP focused on identifying the struggles faced by millions of family caregivers and employers as working caregivers are attempting to continue in their careers and while also providing care and support to a loved one. The result of one year of work is this comprehensive document. The panel discussion on the paper, as well as questions from HR leaders and caregivers is in the link below.

There are only four kinds of people in the world: those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers.” —— Rosalynn Carter

“..who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 corinthians 1: 4

OUR VISION

Our vision is a society where the valued aging/senior individuals can experience autonomy and fulfillment as they age in place for as long as possible in their homes and community, where family caregivers are empowered to provide support and care in a manner that also allows for nurturing their own well-being, minimizing overwhelm and burnout.
